About Us

Vision

A united, inclusive Australia where people from all cultures — mainly refugees and migrants — feel connected, valued, and empowered to thrive.

Mission Statement

The Association is established as a Public Benevolent Institution for the relief of poverty, sickness, distress, suffering, misfortune and helplessness experienced by culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) refugees and migrants of African descent residing in Queensland, Australia, who are experiencing severe socio-economic disadvantage. The Organisation provides direct benevolent relief, including emergency financial assistance, essential material aid, crisis accommodation support, trauma-informed counselling, culturally appropriate case management, and access to health and welfare services for people experiencing extreme hardship, including CALD refugees and migrants, single parents and individuals at risk of homelessness.

Objectives

(a) Relief of Poverty and Financial Hardship

1. Providing emergency financial assistance for rent arrears, bond payments, utility disconnections, essential medical expenses and other urgent living costs;

2. Distributing food parcels, grocery vouchers, clothing, essential household goods and personal care items;

3. Providing no-interest emergency relief payments or material aid to individuals and families at immediate risk of homelessness or destitution;

4. Delivering financial hardship case management and referral to crisis support services.

(b) Relief of Homelessness and Housing Insecurity

1. Assisting individuals and families facing eviction or homelessness through crisis accommodation support and rental advocacy;

2. Providing housing referral services and practical assistance in securing safe and stable accommodation.

(c) Relief of Sickness and Psychological Distress

1. Providing culturally appropriate, trauma-informed counselling and crisis intervention services to individuals suffering psychological distress arising from forced displacement, domestic violence, extreme hardship or social isolation;

2. Assisting eligible persons to access essential medical treatment, mental health services, and prescription medications where financial hardship prevents access.

(d) Relief of Social Isolation and Cultural Disadvantage

1. Providing language-assisted casework, advocacy and referral services to individuals experiencing severe disadvantage due to limited English proficiency;

2. Facilitating culturally safe support services that directly alleviate distress, helplessness and marginalisation experienced by newly arrived refugees and migrants.

(e) Relief of Educational Disadvantage Arising from Poverty

1. Providing essential educational materials, school supplies and hardship assistance to children from families experiencing severe financial hardship;

2. Offering targeted support that directly alleviates the effects of poverty on educational participation.
